HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The reopening of Holland’s civic center is set to coincide with the opening of a new parking deck.
The city transferred property on Ninth Street between River and Pine avenues to GDK Construction, to build the 380-space deck for the cost of an estimated $6.7 million. At the end of construction, the city will buy the property and structure back.
Holland City Manager Keith Van Beek told WHTC the parking deck will add much-needed downtown space.
“There will be well over 200 spaces that are available for the public. there are some, 144 spaces i thinkthat GDK has reserved to support the condos and the apartments and the business that are in there,” he said.
The city will use a 25-year bond valued at up to $7 million to pay for the property.
Once the structure opens, parking will be free. The plan is to open the parking deck on Sept. 28, the same date slated for re-opening the Civic Center.
