LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo will have an extra million dollars fom Lansing his building season to spend replacing lead service lines and making other infrastructure improvments to utilities, thanks to an MDEQ grant program administratated by their Drinking Water and Municipal Assistance division.
Michigan communities were asked to submit grant requests and the money was awarded based on the size of the city, the size of the problems, and the community’s ability to spend the money yet this construction season.
18-communities are splitting $9.5-million. The only cities to get the maximum million dollar grants were Detroit, Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. Battle Creek has been awarded $500,000.
