HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Sunday’s Alliance for Cultural and Ethnic Harmony 20th anniversary will be celebrated during the group’s annual Potluck in the Park.
This year, it’s from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Kollen Park. Admission is free, but donations to the ACEH Scholarship Fund are encouraged.
Participants are invited to bring a dish to pass. No alcohol is allowed at Kollen Park.
Activities include information tables from six Holland-area nonprofits; the Herrick Library Book Bike; music; performances; and a piñata. Organizers say the picnic is intended to be a time of fun, fellowship and meeting new people.
ACEH, according to the “about us” section of the group’s website, “is a non-profit, non-partisan grass-roots group of ethnically diverse people from Holland and nearby areas. ACEH is a friendly organization that welcomes all people and works to create the feeling that our communities belong to everyone. ACEH is not affiliated with any political or religious groups, and is supposrted by membership dues, donations and grants.”
During the year, ACEH hosts monthly meetings to discuss local and national justice and diversity issues, at times with special speakers; plans “walk in my shoes” cross-cultural exercise; and provides a safe and respectful environment for people to share experiences of prejudice and racism and work on solutions.
ACEH supports the Lakeshore Area Summit on Racism; offers resources for encouraging and understanding diversity; training events for schools, businesses, clubs, and religious organizations; and encoruages people to support ethnic businesses and events.
