LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — For the fourth and possibly the last time, a program to fight sexual abuse on Michigan’s college campuses will be distributing one-million dollars to competitive proposals.
The College Sexual Assault Grant Program, created by First Lady Sue Snyder, has singled out the program at Western Michigan University as one of the best in the state and a model for other schools to follow.
Director of Health Promotion and Education at WMU Cari Robertson says they have received about $125,000 through the grant program and spent it on prevention efforts that have worked elsewhere and are reworked to suit WMU.
She says they carefully review their progress and successes and speak with students to make sure their sexual assault prevention programs are working.
She says they are already preparing their application for this year’s grant.
The First Lady has chosen WMU for this fall’s state conference in September.
Campus sexual assault has become a huge issue in Michigan because of the Larry Nassar scandal, and every university is now being held for accountable for their Title IX compliance.
