ALLEGAN (WKZO AM/FM) — A federal lawsuit has been filed against Allegan Area Educational Service Agency Former Superintendent and Principal Jonathon Garcia who subjected teachers to a hostile work environment.
Garcia is already behind bars after a complaint filed by two female teachers claimed that they were being sexually harassed and assaulted and that Principal Garcia had created a hostile work environment.
Now the Justice Department has filed a federal lawsuit, demanding that the Allegan Area Education Service Agency do more.
They want policy reforms and monetary damages for the two teachers.
Garcia’s replacement, William Brown has issued a statement saying their lawyer “is seeking to work with the Department of Justice in an attempt to resolve the complaint.”
“We are, have been, and will continue to be, proactive in training all employees with regards to sexual harassment, discrimination, and bullying. In addition, we will continue to take corrective action when informed of such violations.”
Garcia pled guilty to a criminal sexual conduct charge and is serving 2-1/2 to 10 at the Newberry Correctional Facility.
