PARCHMENT (WKZO AM/FM) — The bottled water distribution center for Parchment and Cooper Township residents dealing with PFAS contaminated water is now at its new site.
It was moved over the weekend from Parchment High School to the Haven Reformed Church and distribution is now only 3 times a week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Local residents carted off 1,736 cases of water, four times more than the amount the previous Saturday.
Police Chief Brian Ergang says one challenge has been keeping the distribution point staffed and they’re asking for any volunteers to help. Interested helpers can call their hotline at 269-373-5346.
If the results of tests done on private wells are any indication, some sort of bottled water distribution may be needed for a while after the Parchment Water Department’s system has been declared safe.
A number of homes have PFAS levels in their private wells that exceed safe standards.
