HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a beach hazards statement, starting Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening, for Lake Michigan’s shoreline from South Haven to Grand Haven.
This alert is for high wave action: Expect strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions.
These strong currents could include structural, longshore or rip-type actions — clearly dangerous swimming conditions will develop quickly Tuesday afternoon, with north sides of north piers being the most dangerous.
Winds will kick up pretty quickly in Tuesday afternoon, according to National Weather Service meteorologsits. Waves on lake Michigan could reach heights of 6 to 10 feet by Tuesday evening.
These waves will sweep across piers quickly and completely, and people are warned to stay off the piers before, during and after this weather event, to avoid the possibility of an unexpected high wave.
