LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The voters had their say two weeks ago and the candidates made their choices over the past four days.
Now, the rest of the slate for statewide elected offices on the November 6, 2018 General Election ballot for the Michigan Republican and Democratic parties will be determined at two separate venues in the Lansing area this coming Saturday.
Democratic gubernatorial nominee Gretchen Whitmer chose today a former Director of Innovation and Emerging Technology for the City of Detroit as her running mate. Garlin Gilchrist II, with past experience working on successful campaigns for President Obama and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, will be called upon to help bolster the ticket in the Motor City, where Whitmer finished behind Shri Thanedar in the Primary Election.
Her selection comes after Republican gubernatorial nominee Bill Schuette tapped former state lawmaker Lisa Posthumus Lyons as his running mate.
As for the “undercard” of statewide offices, Democrats held an “endorsing” convention in April that selected Dana Nessel for Attorney General and Jocelyn Benson for Secretary of State. Saturday’s meeting at MSU’s Breslin Center will confirm those endorsements, along with setting in place the rest of statewide slate.
Republicans have two contested battles ahead of their Saturday confab at the Lansing Center. Term-limited legislators Tonya Schuitmaker and Tom Leonard want the Attorney General nomination, while Joseph Guzman and Mary Treder Lang are vying for the Secretary of State’s nomination.
