KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — There was a major groundbreaking ceremony for a new housing project in downtown Kalamazoo late yesterday.
AVB and Hinman are teaming up to build and manage a four story apartment complex with over 130 mid to high priced units at 401 Rose.
Downtown Kalamazoo Incorporated’s Andrew Hahn says it’s one of three major projects underway that will bring 325 apartments downtown in the next two years.
The $24-million project is being built at the now vacant site where the old Police/Court building used to be.
The Northside Association for Community Development also staged its own groundbreaking on Wednesday afternoon.
They plan to build a small housing project for seniors. They also plan to build a hydroponic garden and kitchen, a small business incubator and other amenities just to the north of their current location at Park and North Streets.
Mattie Jordan-Woods says she has some financing in place. She is looking for more and hopes to have it all in place by the end of next year.
