HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Severe storms are keeping police, firefighters, dispatchers, utility and road crews hopping into the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018.
Dispatchers are working as fast as possible to calm callers and relay accurate information to police on the road and firefighters in Ottawa and Allegan counties.
County road crews used chainsaws, four-wheelers and other equipment to help clear downed trees blocking roads, while utility crews worked responded to calls to turn off power to downed lines, som arcing and sparking, others hanging loosely 10 to 15 feet above ground and still others tangled with trees or nearby wires –or, in one case, poison ivy, according to police-scanner chatter. In the midst of weather responses, police were also responding to calls for help with traffic crashes, domestic violence incidents, breaking/entering reports, and other routine police work.
Severe thunderstorms are expected to continue until about 1 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29.
