MACKINAC ISLAND (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Rick Snyder launched an effort yesterday to bring more cruise ships to the Great Lakes and more tourists to visit exotic locales like Saugatuck and Traverse City.
With one of those Cruise ships as a backdrop yesterday on Mackinac Island, Snyder announced an international and inter-state promotional effort, called “Cruise the Great Lakes”.
It is an effort by the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors & Premiers to boost tourism.
This summer, eight ships owned by three firms plied the Great Lakes.
They hope to have two more cruise operators with a dozen ships by 2020.
