HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two Fennville women, Leah Herbert, 24, and Sarah Shanahan, 25, were injured in a personal watercraft crash Sunday afternoon, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike VanDenBosch.
The happened around 4:15 p.m. Sunday as the women were riding together on a Jet Ski, with Herbert at the controls.
Shanahan told police waves were so strong as they entered the Port Sheldon channel, Herbert lost control of the watercraft and it was forced into the north pierhead, VanDenBosch said. Both women were wearing personal flotation devices, he said.
Herbert was airlifted to Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids, where she is listed in critical condtion. Shanahan went by ambulance to Spectrum Health, where she is listed in serious-but-stable condition, he said.
The incident remains under investigation, VanDenBosch said. Responders included Ottawa County Sheriff’s road patrol deputies, the Port Sheldon Fire Department, Aero Med, and AMR Ambulance.
