LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – At a first glance, the Labor Day holiday weekend was safer, but still not totally safe, on Michigan roadways.
State police officials announced on Tuesday that, based on preliminary reports, 11 persons lost their lives in 11 separate incidents during the period between midnight last Friday and midnight on Tuesday. This was down by 15 fatalities in 10 crashes during the traditional finale to the summer vacation season in 2017.
According to a statement by the state police, “Restraint use was unknown in four of the fatal crashes, two fatal crashes involved alcohol and three crashes involved both pedestrians and a bicyclist. One of the fatal crashes over the weekend also involved a motorcyclist where helmet use was unknown.”
These numbers could be changed as more reports from local municipalities are received at the state police offices in Lansing, and if those who were hurt in crashes succumb to their injuries.
