GUN LAKE (WKZO AM/FM) — The pilot of a motor boat who was allegedly drunk when he made a move that cost a friend his leg, has been bound over to stand trial for operating while intoxicated causing serious injury, a five-year felony.
It happened on Gun Lake in Barry/Allegan County back on June 17th.
21-year-old Michael Butzke had a blood alcohol content that was just over the legal limit, had marijuana in his system and two prior drunk driving arrests.
He was at the wheel when he did a sharp turn, tossing 20-year-old Cameron Cichosz off the boat.
His leg was severed just above the knee by the boat’s propeller.
Two doctors, who were on a pontoon boat nearby helped save his life, but they could not save his leg.
Butzke’s preliminary exam was held this week in Hastings.
