UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — Three Airmen from the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base have been activated and assigned to the Crisis Action Team in the National Capitol Region to oversee their response to Hurricane Florence, and they expect more will be activated in the coming days.
Consumers Spokesman Terry Dedoes says they are preparing just in case they get the call.
He says the fact that he hurricane lost some of its steam before coming on shore may lessen the damage to the electrical infrastructure.
They have to wait for the damage assessments to determine whether they will need the extra help.
Michigan Red Cross chapters have shipped out 60 volunteers who are at staging areas near the Carolinas, or working in shelters set up to house evacuees.
Some 2-1-1 call centers in west Michigan have also called in extra staff to handle some of the 2-1-1 calls redirected from the impacted region.
They say they take calls for people looking for shelters and evacuation routes, freeing up 9-1-1 lines for real emergency calls.
