KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Health officials are confirming the first human case of the West Nile virus found in Kalamazoo County.
The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department reported the case on Wednesday, but no further details on the resident, the area, or their condition has been released.
This comes a day after a report that two older man died from the mosquito-borne virus in both Allegan County and Oakland County.
Details on how to protect yourself from West Nile can be found on Kalamazoo County’s website.
Even with the cooler temperatures, the virus continues to be a risk throughout the state until below-freezing temperatures hit.
There have been 54 confirmed human cases of the mosquito-borne illness this year and 4 confirmed deaths so far.
