UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — Cell phones across the nation will go off at the exact same time Wednesday afternoon.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is conducting a test of their national Wireless Emergency Alert system on October 3rd.
There will be the typical radio and TV alert at 2:20 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, but a little before that there will be a new alert in the palm of your hand.
The FEMA video says phones will display what they’re calling a “Presidential Alert” that would only be sent out by the President in the event of a major national emergency.
The text will read, ” “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.”
There is no option to opt-out of these alerts like there is on Amber or extreme weather alerts.
