EMMETSBURG, MD (WKZO AM/FM) — The name of the late Ed Switalski has now been enshrined at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmetsburg, Maryland.
The former Comstock Fire Chief was one of 80 firefighters who lost their lives last year while on duty.
He and all the others were honored during a weekend of ceremonies and events at the National Fire Academy.
Switalski’s name was called and his wife Holly and their two daughters were presented with a memorial flag.
Memorial Foundation Chief Dennis Compton says they may not like to call themselves heroes, but they are, from the day they first sign up.
Switalski was responding to a call along I-94, when a driver who was speeding and using his cell phone lost control and struck the Chief in June of 2017.
