GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — Last night’s gubernatorial debate generated some heat but not a lot of light as the candidates kept pounding away at the themes that their consultants say are winners.
Schuette promised to cut taxes and claimed Whitmer was too extreme. Whitmer pounded on Schuette’s record on healthcare and promised to fix the roads.
Unlike the debates prior to the Primary, Schuette never uttered the name Donald Trump, but Whitmer did.
Neither side may have won the debate but neither lost it either, satisfying their bases, reassuring their supporters.
At this point the goal is to win over independents and convince them they need to get out and vote.
Last night’s debate was produced by WOOD-TV. They will debate one more time in Detroit on October 24th.
