SOUTH HAVEN (WKZO AM/FM) — South Haven Police say an improvised explosive device failed to properly detonate inside a home in the 500 block of Humphrey Street, but still blew out a window.
They figure the blast occurred at about 4 am, but Officers were not notified about the explosion for nearly 6 hours.
When they responded, they found that a portion of the bomb had not detonated and they called in the State Police Bomb Squad to remove what appeared to be a modified commercial firework.
The IED was seized as evidence and taken to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
There were no injuries.
Several neighbors heard the blast but didn’t report it. One of them saw a tall, slim male dressed in dark clothing riding a dark colored bicycle pedaling west on Humphrey after the explosion.
Detectives say they don’t know if the occupants of the home were targeted or whether the attack was random.
Anyone with information about the extremely dangerous attack is asked to call South Haven Police.
