LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — This week is Opioid Addiction Awareness Week, a time to talk about the risks and dangers affecting communities across Michigan.
Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley says the opioid death toll continues to rise, in fact it’s claiming more lives every year than car accidents.
There were 2,279 overdose deaths in Michigan in 2017 and 1,941 were opioid-related which is up from the 1,786 opioid-related deaths in 2016 and 1,320 in 2015.
To fight this growing statistic, officials are launching a new website that works as a one-stop-shop for opioid information.
It features facts about opioids, ways to find help or help others, information for prescribers and much more.
It can be found at the state’s official website at michigan.gov/opioids.
