COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A woman is in custody after leading police on a high speed pursuit that started in Coldwater and ended in Sturgis Wednesday afternoon.
Speeds during the pursuit were reported to be over 100 miles an hour. Initial reports indicate police were trying to serve a warrant as part of an investigation before the pursuit started on Preston Street on the south side of Coldwater.
It eventually got to Garfield Road where it headed west to U.S. 12 and on towards Bronson.
Stop sticks were unsuccessfully deployed by police east of Bronson.
The chase went onto some residential streets in Bronson before it got back onto U.S. 12 and headed west into St. Joseph County.
It eventually went into the City of Sturgis. It went through the parking lot at the Sturgis Meijer store before it ended nearby at Lakeview and South Streets about 40 minutes after it began in Coldwater.
The suspect was booked at the Branch County Jail and was still in custody on Thursday morning. According to Branch County Sheriff’s Department policy, since she was booked for a felony, her name is being withheld until she is arraigned in Branch County District Court.
She is expected to face numerous charges after she reportedly ran numerous stop signs and signals, passed vehicles illegally, and drove extremely erratically.
