DETROIT (WKZO AM/FM) — Barack Obama held a rally in Detroit Friday night aimed at getting Motor City voters motivated to vote a week from Tuesday.
It has been one of the few deficits pointed out by analysts in Gretchen Whitmer’s polling data. She is winning in Detroit but experts say she needs to have a higher turnout in Detroit to offset Republican turnout elsewhere.
At least that’s the traditional belief, but their own numbers show her leading in many traditional Republican areas too, like West Michigan.
After what happened two years ago, it can’t hurt to cover all your bases.
Voter turnout was something that Obama emphasized often last evening, saying so much is at stake.
Obama’s visit is the latest in a string of high profile campaigners. Friday night Oscar winning actress Jane Fonda spoke at the Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids and her message was also to get out and vote. She also plans stops in Lansing, Detroit and Benton Harbor.
Saturday Baby Trump, the 22-foot tall helium inflated balloon will be at Rosa Parks Circle from 9:00am and 4:00pm, weather permitting, as speakers discuss the issues below.
Monday, Vice President Mike Pence will speak at the Kent County Lincoln Day Dinner, and will be stumping for the GOP ticket in Michigan.
