COVERT TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Palisades Power Plant is offline right now, but it’s a planned occurrence.
Officials with plant operator Entergy announced today that a scheduled 62 million-dollar refueling and maintenance outage is underway that, “reflects Entergy’s continuing commitment to safe, secure and reliable operations until the facility’s permanent retirement in the spring of 2022.” This 26th such outage since the plant’s opening in 1971 comes a fortnight after a successful replacement of a control rod drive seal and a transformer that took Palisades offline earlier this month.
There was no timetable immediately announced as to how long this shutdown will take at the plant near Covert, with about a thousand “skilled supplemental workers” complementing Palisades’ 600 full-time staff in this effort.
