KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Board of State Canvassers will meet a week from Monday to certify state election results and If they do, the new the new Marijuana law would go into effect December 6th.
Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting isn’t waiting. They are already dropping charges against anyone who has already been arrested for marijuana possession, or any other marijuana charge that will no longer be illegal when the new recreational marijuana law takes effect.
He has also notified local police agencies that they shouldn’t be sending any new requests for marijuana charges his way unless the violation exceeds the new standards.
He says expunging the records of all those who have already been convicted is an issue he may leave to the state.
He says both Governor- Elect Gretchen Whitmer and Attorney General-Elect Dana Nessel have discussed the possibility.
