EAST LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Former MSU President Lou Anna Simon is taking an unpaid leave from her job on the Faculty at MSU after she has been charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors for her handling of the Larry Nassar sex scandal.
Attorney General Bill Schuette has charged her with lying to police, alleging she was aware of the accusations that Nassar sexually assaulted patients at MSU when questioned about a 2014 Title Nine investigation.
Simon’s Attorneys are calling the charges political and frivolous and say she will be exonerated.
Sterling Riethman of Kalamazoo, one of the first survivors to speak up about Nassar, says Simon was not there for them, and calls his another step toward justice.
Simon resigned as MSU president earlier this year after Nassar was sentenced to decades in prison for the sexual assaults after his federal sentence for child pornography is complete.
She will be arraigned Monday morning on the four charges.
