LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Republican majority in the Michigan Senate has pushed through bills essentially gutting voter initiatives that would mandate sick pay and raise the minimum wage.
Republican alterations would push back implementation of a $12.00 per hour minimum wage from 2022 to 2030. It would also make it much more difficult if not impossible for all employees to have access to mandatory sick pay.
Senate Jaority Leader Arlen Meekhof says anyone who signed the petitions should have known this could happen.
Democrat Curtis Hertel says they sign the petitions because they want it enacted as written.
There is no guarantee the Governor will sign off on the changes, and if he does, several groups are threatening legal challenges.
