KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Township of Kalamazoo Police Department has released new details in a shooting over the weekend that resulted in the death of a Decatur man.
Previously, police had responded to reports of a shooting Friday in the 3400 block of West Main Street around 4:30 p.m.
Once on scene, police found the victim, 25-year-old Michael Jaye Underwood III, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
In an update released Monday, police said the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Darrell Felton of Kalamazoo Township, is believed to have shot Michael Underwood as the result of an argument.
Police also said the two previously knew each other through a third party.
Underwood was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Darrell Felton is currently lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail. He has been arraigned on:
- One count of open murder – Open murder is a felony, and if found guilty, the sentence may be up to life in prison.
- One count of weapons – felony firearm. Felony firearms, if found guilty may carry a two-year prison sentence.
This case remains under investigation at this time.
