HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The recently-passed Unlock Michigan petition initiative involving the 1945 “Riot Act” has brought the issue of public awareness in petition efforts to light.
Those who want to follow the initiative process through the Michigan Secretary of State’s web site would be able to do so under legislation introduced earlier this month by second-term Republican House Representative Brad Slagh of Zeeland.
“Once a petition gets filed, there’s no update for the public to be able to know where the status is or what’s going on,” he said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during his monthly appearance on Monday (July 26, 2021). “This (House Bill 5252) would add to the law, saying that the Secretary of State would keep a web site, and that you would just be able to have the petition listed, and have the update on a monthly basis so that people knew what the status was.”
This legislation has been referred to the state House Committee on Elections and Ethics for consideration.
