PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – City officials in Portage confirmed Tuesday afternoon that an overflow from a sanitary sewer manhole took place Tuesday morning.
The overflow happened around 8 a.m. near 4503 West Milham Avenue. Officials say the overflow was caused by a large tree root that was lodged in the pipe, and the situation was repaired by 2 p.m. earlier today.
Before the repair, approximately 25 gallons of wastewater leaked onto the ground, sidewalk and roadway.
The small area was cleaned and powdered lime was spread over the effected soils.
No health impacts are expected from the incident.
