BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Battle Creek Area Chamber of Commerce will be co-hosting an event with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation on how businesses can help respond to the opioid crisis in Michigan. The event will take place online Tuesday, July 20 from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
According to the Chamber, in 2019, the CDC reported over 70,000 deaths resulting from drug overdoses, more than automobile accidents, suicide, liver disease, and influenza. Of these deaths, over 70% involved an opioid.
Chamber officials say the situation has gotten worse due to the challenges faced from the COVID-19 pandemic. Families, communities, and businesses have faced unfamiliar and unprecedented challenges and the crisis has compounded as a result.
The Sharing Solutions Michigan event will examine these challenges for employers and communities and arm businesses with tools and best practices to shape a proactive and informed response.
