WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO AM/FM) –Lawmakers hope some of the new technologies proposed by the Army Corps of Engineers to keep Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes, like underwater speakers and water cannons will get the job done.
There is more science behind it than just blasting heavy metal tunes into the water hoping it will annoy the carp and they will go away.
Anyone who has seen the pictures knows that the sound from boat motors makes the fish jump out of the water.
Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow says the sound barriers will exploit that vulnerability.
Water jets would prevent smaller carp from being swept along by barges, a problem they have noticed with the current electronic barriers. T
The proposal will be subject to public comment for the next 45-days.
