NILES TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force and the Berrien County Homicide task force has joined the investigation into the murder of a Niles Township woman who was gunned down in her own cellar Sunday evening.
John and Carla Lewis returned to their home on Lawndale Avenue at about 6 pm and he told police they discovered two heavyset black males in their basement.
One of them opened fire, killing 55-year-old Carla. The suspects ran from the place, taking his Mrs. Lewis’s Mazda SUV.
Investigators aren’t saying if there was a connection but they arrested John Lewis, allegedly for marijuana they found growing in the home.
He recently started a medical marijuana support group in the area.
