DETROIT, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Little Caesars Arena in Detroit rocked for their offical opening with a Kid Rock concert.
Kid Rock, who is from Romeo, Michigan, has severasl shows scheduled at the new downtown arena. Due to Kid Rock’s political views, the National Action Network had called on Olympia Entertainment to cancel the concerts. The singer opened the show with a short speech, but did not reveal anything about if he intends to run for office.
It was a peaceful show, says Detroit Police Deputy Chief Elvin Barren.
“We had a line of demonstrators marching and we had a line of protesters. They maintained their professionalism”
The Arena is not completely finished though. Arena officials say some of the private suites still need work along with utility areas and fencing outside the Arena needs to be removed. The facility is opening with a temporary certificate of occupancy from the city.
The Detroit Red Wings will play their first hockey game September 23, in a preseason match up with the Boston Bruins.
