CLEVELAND, OH (WKZO AM/FM) – One night after being rained out, and even after being delayed by two hours in their start Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers swept last night’s doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians.
Harold Castro and Jonathan Schoop each had three RBI for Detroit in a 9-4 win in the first game. Castro’s RBI single in the fifth inning supported five outs of perfect relief from Kyle Funkhouser. Jose Urena started and picked up the win. He struck out five of the first nine batters he faced.
Miguel Cabrera smacked his 494th career home run as the Tigers took the second game 7-1. The games marked the Tigers’ first twin-bill sweep of the Indians since August 7, 1986, and their first sweep in Cleveland since September 14, 1977.
Detroit and the Chicago White Sox begin a three-game series tomorrow at Comerica Park
