KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — As the representatives of a city that is still recovering from its own mass shooting, Kalamazoo City Commissioners expressed their sympathy for the City of Las Vegas, and the victims, who really came from all over the nation and the world to attend the Country Music Festival where America’s worst mass murder has just occurred.
Several Commissioners expressed their frustration that more hasn’t been done to restrict the kinds of weapons available to the public and who can buy them.
Like the suspect in Kalamazoo’s shooting, Jason Dalton, the gunman in Las Vegas, Steven Paddock was an older white male with no apparent motive, no history of mental illness and no prior indication that they were capable of such a horrible crime.
Governor Rick Snyder has joined the White House in calling for Michigan and U.S. Flags to be lowered to half-staff through Friday evening to honor the victims of the shooting rampage in Las Vegas.“Michigan joins the rest of the nation as we mourn the dozens of lives lost in Las Vegas,” Snyder said. “Sue and I send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of lost loved ones as well as the Las Vegas community as they deal with the aftermath of this terrible tragedy. I also ask that we come together as Michiganders to pray for the hundreds of people injured and those who are fighting for their lives.”
The Governor joins a number of national and local politicians in expressing their sadness as they mourn the lives lost, and call for prayers.
All three of West Michigan’s Congressmen; Fred Upton, Justin Amash and Bill Huizenga are offering their condolences to the families of the victims as well.
