LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Another “poorly-kept” secret in Lansing is now out in the open.
Term-limited state Michigan House Speaker Tom Leonard of DeWitt made it official Thursday through the unveiling of a website and a promotional video – he would like to replace the departing Bill Schuette as Michigan’s Attorney General.
“I want to unite around the common sense values that are the foundation of our state,” he said in the video. “I am running to be Michigan’s Attorney General to defend the innocent, the vulnerable, the hard-working people of this state, who aren’t looking for special interest deals or political favors, (but) just their honest shot at living a better life.”
His main challenger for the GOP nomination, state Senator Tonya Schuitmaker of Lawton, issued a brief statement in response: “As a pro-life, pro-second amendment, law-and-order conservative who won in counties President Obama carried twice, I look forward to the Republican nomination contest.” State Republicans will decide during their convention next August who will be the party’s nominee for A-G.
