GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — A Battle Creek man has won the $200,000 top award at this year’s ArtPrize.
Richard Schlatter’s “A. Lincoln” got the most votes from the public.
It’s a huge portrait of the President done using 24,000 pennies, and while it may not exactly be fine art, it was certainly popular.
He says he plans to donate some of the prize to Safe Place, a shelter for women who are the victims of domestic abuse in Battle Creek. .
