KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Saturday’s blustery weather may have ruined some weekend plans and it very nearly killed an Ice Cream man and two little girls on Kalamazoo’s south west side at about 5:30 Saturday afternoon.
The Ice Cream truck had stopped at Springmont and Barnard Avenues in the Oakwood neighborhood for two little girls.
The driver was just reaching into the cooler when a huge tree blew over and crashed onto the back of the van, collapsing the vehicle.
It knocked the two girls to the ground and temporarily pinned the driver inside, between the roof and floor of the van. He was able to wriggle out and climb out of the van through a window.
The tree also took down powerlines, knocking out power to the area.
Lucklily the girls and the driver only suffered minor injuries in the crash but it’s a trip to the Ice Cream truck they will never forget.
