KALAMAZOO/CALHOUN COUNTIES (WKZO AM/FM) — Local Police agencies executed raids on four addresses in Calhoun and Kalamazoo Counties, using battering rams in some cases after an investigation that began in April into dogfighting in the area.
The search warrants resulted in the seizure of ten dogs, most of them pit bulls. Five were found at a home in Bedford Township and five others at a home in Emmett Township.
The dogs were taken to calhoun County Animal Control for an examination by a veterinarian to assess and record their injuries and their condition.
A search warrant on a home on Cora Drive in Portage also resulted in the seizure of undisclosed evidence.
There were no arrests on dogfighting charges. Those would come once the investigation and tests are completed.
The 32-year-old who was arrested in April and sparked the investigation, was arrested again, this time for allegedly being in possession of marijuana,. A warrant was also executed at his home in Battle Creek.‘
