LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The Senate Transportation Committee has taken testimony on a proposal by Senator Margaret O’Brien to rename a stretch of I-94 for fallen Comstock Fire Chief Ed Switalski. She says it was the memorial that his family preferred.
“Renaming I-94 after Chief Switalski reminds people of road safety while honoring Chief Switalski for his dedicated service to our community,” said Senator O’Brien of Portage. “Chief Switalski was a true public servant and will not be forgotten.”
The Chief was killed while on duty in June, when he was struck by a wayward driver who had allegedly been speeding and texting as he approached the emergency vehicles and lost control.
O’Brien says they have already raised the money for the costs of renaming the stretch of the interstate as it passes through Comstock Township between exits 80 and 86.
A committee vote is set for next week.
