LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — One West Michigan State Senator’s bill to require that Police Officer’s work histories and indiscretions follow them after they leave a job has been signed by the Governor.
Sen. Rick Jones says it’s too easy for Chiefs to just let bad cops quit when they misbehave, and then they just go to work in some other department and take their bad habits with them. The Governor’s signature ends that practice.
Legislation by Rep. John Bizon of Battle Creek would do the opposite for troubled young people who complete the Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy Boot Camp at Fort Custer.
The bill has just cleared committee in the house. It would make it easier for judges to set aside juvenile court convictions, and expunge the record of young juvenile offenders, giving the graduates a fresh start.
Bizon’s bill now goes to the Floor of the House for consideration.
The 22-week intensive program gives young offenders a combination of intense tutoring and physical activity to get their minds and bodies in the best shape of their lives.
