KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A free steak dinner by God’s Kitchen of Michigan, previously scheduled for Tuesday, June 29, has been rescheduled, the hunger-relief organization said Tuesday afternoon.
The organization said the decision was made due to inclement weather.
The meal has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, July 6, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., and will take place in Bronson Park downtown.
“We apologize to our dinner guests for the inconvenience,” board chair Pastor William Stein said in a statement “I could not live with myself if someone was injured or killed by a lightning strike or other circumstance due to the weather.”
According to the National Weather Service, intermittent thunderstorms will continue throughout Tuesday with showers and thundershowers predicted during the dinner hour.
“We have prayed about today’s weather in hopes that it would subside. But there is something called, ‘False Faith,'” Pastor Stein said. “You have to know when the Lord is conveying a message to you and yield at the appropriate time. That time is now.”
Next Tuesday’s rescheduled dinner will consist of steak, baked potatoes, garden salad, a vegetarian dish, dessert, and bottled water. The free meal is open to the public and served on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are no income or identification requirements to participate.
God’s Kitchen of Michigan is a private nonprofit corporation established to combat hunger in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek. The charity is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year.
