FREEPORT (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s much more than your typical boil water alert.
Officials in the Village of Freeport in Barry County have issued a no-contact warning for the water that comes out of the tap.
They say a firetruck battling a blaze at Ketcham Machine Friday evening was set up backwards and rather than take water out of a hydrant, it pumped river water and firefighting foam into the city’s water supply.
They say the chemicals could cause irritation if consumed or exposed to the skin. Officials went door to door to explain the issue to residents Saturday morning.
They will be flushing and testing the system, which could take a couple of days to complete.
Until then avoid the water in Freeport.
