COLON, MI (WTVB) – A 33-year-old Colon man is in the St. Joseph County Jail on a charge of attempted murder of a police officer after Michigan State Police say he fired a shot at police Tuesday afternoon.
Michigan State Police say they were sent to a home in the 32000 block of Eleanor Drive in Colon Township on a report of a suicidal person with a gun.
A family member arrived and tried to talk the man into surrendering but troopers say the man threatened to kill the family member and himself.
The unidentified man began yelling at police and then fired a shot that State Police say nearly struck an officer.
The suspect came out with the gun in his hand and after a brief standoff, threw the gun down and tried to run back inside.
A trooper and a St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Deputy managed to confront the man before he got back inside. He was then tasered and taken into custody.
Colon Police also assisted State Police during the incident.
