KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — He was a one-man crime wave spanning three counties, but the crime spree initiated by a 26- year-old from Jackson came to a sudden halt after trying to outrun police in Allegan County.
State Police Sgt. Keith Disselkoen says they have been breaking off high speed chases when only minor offenses are involved, but they knew this was something different, so they kept up the pursuit.
The Sergeant thinks the suspect knew the police were on his trail and his reaction was to break into homes and obtain the things he would need to escape
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department was already working with the Michigan State Police to locate the 26-year-old suspect in the Comstock area following an assault and carjacking in Jackson County.
Deputies say he broke into three homes on Savannah, in Ross Township, another home on 44th street and a fifth on East Gull Lake Drive, stealing two cars from those homes as he traveled.
He was spotted in Allegan County by a DNR officer who began a pursuit and was joined by other officers.
The chase ended in a crash along 116th Street near Allegan.
The suspect was admitted for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash. He will be jailed after he is discharged.
