KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — As Independence Day approaches, residents in Kalamazoo can start celebrating early if they want to as the use of fireworks is now permitted. But the city is warning people to only use them during designated times or face the possibility of penalties.
Today through Sunday, July 4, fireworks can legally be set off between 11:00 a.m. and 11:45 p.m.. City officials say anyone caught violating the guidelines could face a fine of up to $1,000 and possible misdemeanor charges.
According to WWMT, the city reported 535 fireworks complaints in 2020. So far this year, there have been 131 fireworks complaints as of Tuesday, June 22, including 88 just this month.
