CASCO TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 63-year-old man from Pullman was pronounced dead at the scene in a two-vehicle crash in Casco Township Thanksgiving evening.
Captain Chris Kuhn with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office says South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) responded to the crash around 9:40 p.m. at 109th Avenue and 66th Street in Casco Township of Allegan County.
Upon arrival first responders found two vehicles that had severe damage to them with one driver Paul Hapke Jr. pinned in a rolled over pickup truck in an adjacent field. The other driver on scene was able to tell deputies that she was southbound on 66th St. when she was unable to stop for the stop sign at 109th Ave. She then struck a pickup truck driven by Hapke Jr. that was eastbound on 109th Ave. The force of the crash made his truck roll over and end up in an adjacent field.
Paul Hapke Jr was extricated from his vehicle, but was determined to be deceased at the scene. The other driver was found to have minor injuries and she did not need transport to the hospital.
The crash remains under investigation at this time by the Crash Reconstruction Team, however, since charges are possible in this case the name of the surviving driver will not be released at this time. She was identified as a 20 year old female from the South Haven area.
The sheriff’s office was assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police and the South Haven Area Emergency Services.
