KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s been a deadly Thanksgiving weekend in West Michigan. At least six have died in crashes, and because some of the casualties were not the at-fault drivers, it may result in criminal charges.
The latest occurred early Sunday morning north of Muskegon when a driver who may have been traveling at excessive speeds went into a wooded area and burst into flames.
Thursday night, Paul Hapke Jr. of Pullman was killed by a driver who ran a stop sign.
Warren Bogseth of Coloma was killed in a head-on collision Friday. He was a passenger in one of the vehicles.
Later that morning, Velinda Travis of Barry County died trying out her brand new Harley-Davidson.
James Braddock of Sawyer hit a tree Saturday morning.
Passenger Christina Kent of Cedar Springs did not survive a head-on crash Saturday night.
Ten died statewide last year during the Thanksgiving weekend. We may top that this year when State Police have totaled up the holiday death toll in a few days.
