GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — The National weather service says parts of Southwest Michigan are about to get slammed. WInter storm warnings have been issued in the lakeshore counties and advisories further inland.
Forecaster William Marino at the Grand Rapids office says it will be the whole package, heavy snow, wind and cold with periods of white out conditions for the next 24 hours.
He says the only thing keeping it from qualifying as a blizzard is that those conditions need to continue for three hours, and he says there won’t that kind of distance between the bands of heavy lake effect snow and white outs.
He says we could get as much as 9 inches in Western Kalamazoo County and even more closer to the lake.
He says if you plan to travel west today, you may want to change your plans.
Traveling east won’t be snow free, but it will be easier.
